perceptions of misperceptions: a speculative narrative about [un]occupied space
the real is in the invisible
-Plato
The project commences with the random, everyday exercise of writing the obscured fiction. Each story is only a fragmentation of perhaps, life, politics, moments of me, sites, places, things, people, existential questions, etc. This is an exercise I have endured, proclaimed, and ameliorated for the past 10 years, the act of writing. One out of countless stories was selected at random and developed into a manifestation of speculative architecture. The thesis is comprised of understanding time and perception and where the moments of misalignment, unprocessing, dreaming, blurring exhibit areas of how we perceive contemporary culture. Narrative is acting as a methodology to which a person can perceive speeds of contemporary culture, therefore, understand or provoke architecture. Architecture, through narrative and images creates allegorical stories that aim to expose the misfires of the discipline in theory and practice. This form of architecture is simultaneously both theory and practice, to me, it is theory as practice. The project voices the fictionous character, The Great Sir Henry James Dudley and recounts his conquest of the truth of the skies which inexplicably became a quest for universal understanding of time and perception. Dudley, an amateur circus performer would leave five tarot cards resting on his psychic table. These five words light, time, power, episodic subconscious, and imprisoned soul would determine his predestined fate of proclaimed volumes into the silent cry of night.
